Assemblywoman Natasha Johnson’s Statement on Governor Newsom’s May Budget Revision

SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Natasha Johnson (R–Lake Elsinore) released the following statement on Governor Newsom’s May Budget Revision.

“The Governor’s budget highlights an ongoing structural deficit that will only continue to worsen,” said Assemblywoman Natasha Johnson. “Balancing California’s budget on the backs of taxpayers and small business owners with $3.8 billion in annual tax increases is fiscally irresponsible and an insult to hard-working families already forced to choose between gas and groceries. At the same time, the Governor is weakening public safety and law enforcement by not funding Proposition 36, putting our communities at risk and defying the will of the voters,” Johnson continued. “I will continue to fight for practical common-sense solutions that protect Riverside County families and improve our quality of life.”

Since Governor Newsom took office in 2019, state spending has grown by 76%, from $140 billion to the $247 billion proposed for 2026-27.
